I wanted to visit Mallorca because I was a fan of The Mallorca Files and was entranced with the portrayal of the island. The clear waters, the gorgeous architecture, the luxurious villas, the mountainous landscape… I had to see it all and visit the beautiful filming locations for The Mallorca Files!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to visiting ALL The Mallorca Files filming locations, and I still haven’t figured out some of them, but I’m hoping this list will give you some Mallorca inspiration for your next trip!

The Mallorca Files Filming Locations in Spain

The Mallorca Files follows Miranda Blake, a British detective, and Max Winter, a German detective, both living and working on the island of Mallorca.

The light-hearted crime drama centers around their quirky relationship as they solve murders and mysteries in ridiculously picturesque locations around the island.

Catedral de Mallorca

The Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca (or Cathedral of Mallorca) is Palma’s most recognizable landmark.

The grand cathedral dominates the city’s skyline and is showcased in almost every episode, from aerial views to shots down below.

The exterior of the Royal Palace of La Almundaina is shown a lot in several episodes, with the arches popping up in multiple transitions between scenes. The fortified walls and towers have also made several appearances throughout the show.

The Lago del Cisne is a garden just below the palace, and the filming location of season 3, episode 2: Clandestino. Not only is this the location of the charity event, but also where we find Brandi Fuster dead in front of the arches in the same episode.

Paseo del Borne

Paseo del Borne or most likely, Passeig del Born (the Catalan version) on your map app is shown briefly in season 1, episode 3.

After finding a receipt on the beach by the abandoned boat, Max and Miranda follow a lead to this shopping street. The shot isn’t taken from the main road, but the side street, Carrer de la Constitució… right next to Zara Home.

The roundabout on Passeig del Born is also featured in the series. We can spot this area a few times throughout the series but in season 3, episode 1 there are a couple of important scenes filmed around the fountain.

We officially meet Max’s father here after Max fails to pick him up from the airport and then again Max is saying goodbye to his father after he learns the real reason for his visit.

Miranda notices Max trying to impress his father, but failing, so she steps in and claims he’s “one of the best detectives” she’s worked with and that he should “be proud of him”.

Moltabarra

One of the most recognizable and most used filming locations for The Mallorca Files is Moltabarra, a.k.a. Joan’s Bar. Every show needs a good hangout spot for its characters, and that’s Joan’s Bar! Almost every episode of the show features a scene from this location.

The bar is owned by Carmen’s father, Joan Lorenzo. Carmen is Max’s girlfriend and is a bartender at the bar.

Some memorable scenes filmed at Joan’s Bar include the secret conversation with Bianca in season 3, episode 2.

Cala Llombards

This picturesque bay near Santanyi on the southeast coast of Mallorca is only seen in season 3, episode 1. The treasure hunt takes a turn for the worse when Alberto is found dead in between the small fishing houses. And although it only features for a couple of minutes, it’s worth a visit if you want a relaxing beach day.

The cove can be accessed from the road, but no bus stops are nearby, so driving or taking a taxi are the only ways to get here.

Tren de Sóller

Perhaps the most recognizable filming location in The Mallorca Files. This 1920s train is the star of episode 4 in the first season: Number One Fan.

The story revolves around Valentina, a supermodel who mysteriously disappeared on the Sóller train to Palma.

Even if you’ve never seen The Mallorca Files, this is a train journey you need to experience! There are several trains throughout the day leaving from either Palma or Sóller, you can also include the return tram to Port de Sóller with your ticket.

Sóller

Continuing with season 1, episode 4, there are A LOT of scenes shot around Sóller!

The streets of Sóller are seen throughout the episode while Max and Miranda investigate Valentina’s disappearance… specifically Carrer de Sa Lluna and Plaça de la Constitució (the main plaza around the church).

The Sóller train station is shown when Max and Miranda check the security footage to see if they can spot Valentina and again later when Richard Webb is running from the two detectives.

Port de Sóller can also be seen in the episode along with the tram that takes you there.

Placa de Cort

Placa de Cort (Plaza Court in English) seems to be showcased quite a bit throughout the series.

The first time we see the plaza is in the very first episode of the whole show! Miranda and Max take their first drive through the narrow streets of Palma and after clinging on for dear life, Max takes Miranda for coffee in the plaza and they chat about the case.

The plaza also appears in season 3, episode 4 with protesters outside what is the real-life city hall in Palma, later on in the episode, Max and Miranda are standing in the plaza eating a popsicle while they are discussing the case.

And completely unrelated to The Mallorca Files (just a fun fact), Placa de Cort is home to a 600-year-old olive tree (Olivera de Cort) transported there in 1989 as a symbol of peace.

Basilica de Sant Francesc

This church has a very impressive facade and it is located in the heart of Palma. It has been used for a couple of exterior shots throughout the series.

At the end of the episode, Miranda and Max enter the car and Miranda wonders if she was given the real icon (S1, E3)

Plaça Major

This plaza is the main square in Palma and features in season 1, episode 3. The famous icon of St Peters is stolen and Max and Miranda head to the square to chat with Max’s shady informant, a painter named Paco.

Paco spots the pair walking up to him and immediately takes off running, but Miranda stops him at the end of the square.

Luxurious Villas

The Mallorca Files has filmed in plenty of gorgeous villas throughout the island and would you believe you can actually STAY in some of them?! Of course, you’ll have to fork out the cash, but is it worth it? Most likely! *wink*

Palacio Can Marqués: This is a 5-star hotel with Palma’s city center at your doorstep. The hotel is featured as the secret meet-up spot for Daniella and the Mayor (S3, E4)

Sollerich Possessió: Just north of Alaró, you can stay in the complex that was used as the Tevez villa (S3, E4)

Oliver Moragues Grandhouse & Vineyard: Located east of Palma, this hotel was featured as the vineyard house (S1, E6)

Grand Hotel Son Net: This converted country house is now a luxury hotel in Puigpunyent, featured as the restaurant A Dish Served Cold (S2, E3)

PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort and Spa: Max and Miranda go undercover to investigate a series of thefts at a hotel (S3, E6)

Other Mallorca Files Filming Locations

• Playa de Portals Vells: Also known as Three Finger Bay, the thief’s abandoned boat is found in this cove (S1, E3)
• Bodega Ribas: The rival winery, owned by Emilio Byass, in Sour Grapes (S1, E6)
• Cementiri de Palma: The cemetery where Maria’s best friend was buried (S1, E8)
• Cuevas del Drach: The caves where Miranda and Max are watching the opera (S2, E1)
• Casal Solleric: The entrance hall to José Castaña’s house (S2, E1)
• Artà: The town is home to the Gris family, the church and the steep steps leading up to the Santuari de Sant Salvador are seen at the beginning of the episode (S2, E2)
• Abacanto: The house used as the Gris family home is a cocktail bar in Palma, which has been closed for a while (S2, E2)
• Parc de Sa Feixina: The team tries to catch the handoff of diamonds and take down a diamond smuggling ring (S3, E6)
