10 Pictures That Will Make You Want to Visit Yorkshire NOW
Yorkshire is a county of England located in the north… and guys, it’s beautiful! No joke. With two national parks (North York Moors National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park), rolling hills, historic towns, seaside villages, steam trains, and probably the most friendliest people in England, Yorkshire is definitely worth a visit. If I haven’t convinced you, then hopefully these pictures will.
The North York Moors National Park is huge. One of the largest in England and that means you probably won’t see it all, but this overlook point gives you a pretty view point of just a small piece of the park’s land. If you look closely you can see Gormire Lake. Legend has it that this lake is bottomless and was created when an earthquake swallowed an entire town!
Maybe this was the castle on the hill that Ed Sheeran was talking about?! If not, then it’s pretty close… driving down old country lanes to get to this gem that overlooks the Yorkshire Dales was an adventure in itself, but the view from the top of Bolton Castle is worth it.
Remember I said seaside villages? Well this is one of the cutest, quaintest, quintessential English seaside I have ever been to (Yes, I have been to a few to compare!). Robin Hoods Bay is located on the north east coast and is filled with cute cottages, steep and winding streets, and when you get to the bottom, you are rewarded with a huge bay that turns into a big beach spot during low tide.
Even on the grey days, it’s beautiful. This is the public footpath in Hawes that winds through open fields (with sheep walking around) and down through small villages and back up through the hills.
Yorkshire is filled with cathedrals and this is York Minster, probably the second most famous in England (right behind Westminster Abbey), but it’s also the tallest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.

With plenty of churches and cathedrals to go around, there’s also plenty of stately homes. This is Castle Howard and yes, it has castle in the name, but it’s not a castle. (I’m not sure why it’s called a castle.. lemme know if you know!). Not only are the views beautiful here, but the home itself and that fountain! Geez, it’s no wonder it’s been used in a bunch of movies.

This is Fountain’s Abbey. It was built in the 11th century by monks and was destroyed by Henry VIII in the 16th century and this is all that’s left of one of the wealthiest abbeys in England…. but isn’t she a looker? Definitely a must if you visit Yorkshire!
Nestled in the hills of the Yorkshire Dales, you will find Malham Cove. Back in the ice age when the glaciers melted, it formed this massive waterfall (260 feet high and 980 feet wide! – that’s taller than Niagara Falls)… fast forward 12,000 years or so and its dry, but it’s left a beautiful limestone pavement on the top that only takes 400 steps and 20 minutes to climb.
I fell in love with steam trains! Seriously. I didn’t think that I would ever include myself in the train nerd category, but after a few rides on the steam train, I found myself taking note of the engine numbers and looking up what year they were built and restored…. I haven’t reached model train stats, yet, but I guess we will see… also this is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway that stops at Goathland Station, or better known to the Potterheads as Hogsmeade Station (yes, it’s everything you imagined it to be!).
