The purple wisteria draped across the red brick facade with a horse and carriage waiting outside to take you to the season’s biggest ball… the kind of house that makes you want to throw on an empire waist gown and wait for the duke to steal a spot on your dance card. But here’s the burning question… is the Bridgerton House real? And can you visit it?
Simple answer? YES! While the Bridgerton home interior shots are filmed at RAF Halton House, all the exterior shots are filmed at the Ranger’s House in Greenwich.
Unfortunately, the wisteria and rose-covered gates are all TV magic, but the Georgian house is still gorgeous! If you’re a Bridgerton fan planning a trip to London, the Ranger’s House is a must-visit!
Memorable Scenes at the Bridgerton House
While the Ranger’s House is always in the background, it’s far from a guest star. Some memorable moments have been set right in front of this house.
The Bridgerton home sets the tone of the series in season one, episode one when we see Daphne getting ready to head out for her debut with the queen. Everyone is running around frantically with one thing on their mind, getting to the palace on time to be presented to the queen to signify the start of the social season.
Closing out season one, the Bridgerton family stands outside the house and waves goodbye to Colin as he sets off on his adventures, meanwhile, season two is set up with Anthony chatting to the Duke and Daphne about what the next social season holds for him.
In season two, episode seven, Elouise is on the hunt for the person behind Lady Whistledown… instead of going on a pleasant promenade with her family, she heads out to go “shopping for gloves”, as she rushes out the door, she is met by the Queen pulling up in her carriage accusing Elouise of being Lady Whistledown.
In the beginning of season three, Colin is greeted by the family as he returns home from his travels and Penelope watches from a distance.
The Greenwich Rose Garden, which is essentially the backyard of the Ranger’s House, has also been used throughout the series in various park scenes.

Unlike the show’s glamourous Mayfair setting, with Georgian houses packed into Grosvenor Square, the Ranger’s House stands alone in what seems like a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of London.
I understand, you want to do as many things as possible during your trip to London, but the Ranger’s House is such an easy add-on, especially if you are spending more time in Greenwich!
By Train: Blackheath Station is the closest and a direct train from London Bridge. The walk to the house is about 15 minutes.
By DLR: If it’s your first time in London, the Underground can seem confusing but don’t make it harder than it is. The DLR is connected to the underground and is accessible from the Bank tube station. Exit at Cutty Sark and take a leisurely 20-25 walk to the Ranger’s House or hop on a bus!
By Bus: Once you are in Greenwich, you can skip the walk and hop on the 386 bus between the Maritime Museum and Royal Naval College. Get off at Chesterfield Gate and it’s an easy 5-minute walk from there! Buses are quite frequent (about every 15 minutes).
By Car: There is a small car park connected to the Ranger’s House, but I don’t recommend driving in London!
By Boat: Uber boat is a great way to get around London and see it from a different perspective. Get off at Greenwich Pier and either walk up to the house or hop on a bus to get you there faster.
History of the Ranger’s House
It’s not hard to believe that the Ranger’s House had a history before the Bridgerton series. The house was built in 1723 and was originally the private home of Admiral Francis Hosier, who served in the Royal Navy until his death in 1727. The house, designed by John James, includes a Neptune keystone above the front door, no doubt a nod to the Admiral’s maritime career.
After Hosier’s death, the house was passed down through several aristocratic hands before becoming the official residence of the Ranger of Greenwich Park.
The first ranger to live in the house was Princess Sophia Matilda, the niece of George III. She was much-loved in the community and lived there for the longest time.
Eventually, the Ranger’s House became the home of the Wernher Collection. Sir Julius Wernher, a wealthy German businessman, assembled the collection you can see today, which contains over 700 pieces!
Can You Visit Inside the Ranger’s House?
Absolutely! While the Bridgerton series only gives us dreamy exterior shots, the Ranger’s House isn’t just for gazing at from the outside, you can explore its stunning interior.
And while you won’t find the Bridgertons lounging in the drawing room (tragic, I know), you will discover an incredible collection of art and antiques that make it well worth a visit if you are into history.
If you wish to step inside the Bridgerton’s house, you can pre-purchase your ticket on the official website. However, the house is not open year-round, so plan accordingly if you don’t want to miss out. Also, if you’re an English Heritage member, access to the house is free!
Other Bridgerton Filming Locations in Greenwich
It’s no surprise that Bridgerton is filmed all over Greenwich, not just the Ranger’s House.
The Queen’s House: The exterior of the Queen’s House was used in season one as the meet and greet party for Prince Fredrich of Prussia. The house is free to enter if you wish to see the famous Tulip Stairs.
Old Royal Naval College: This complex is gorgeous and has been seen throughout the entire series. Season three, in particular, showcases some gorgeous locations around the college. There is also free entry here, but if you want to see the Painted Hall, there is a small fee.
Things to Do Around the Ranger’s House
There is so much to do in Greenwich and it’s one of my favorite areas in London. It is more like a peaceful (although, still busy) retreat from the craziness of London’s tourist area.
- Greenwich Park
- Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian Line
- Queen’s House
- Old Royal Naval College
- Cutty Sark
- Greenwich Market
- National Maritime Museum
- The Fan Museum
All of these are within walking distance of each other and worth a visit. I would highly recommend planning a full day to visit Greenwich when you visit the Ranger’s House!
