Have you been searching for the Madame Blanc Mysteries Filming locations? Look no further, I have done all the hard work for you! And no, I’m not going to be “vague” and say the Madame Blanc Mysteries are filmed in Gozo, Malta, and leave it at that… I’m going to highlight all the major and memorable filming locations from the show that you can visit in real life!

I’m just going to say that it was not easy trying to find all the Madame Blanc filming locations, and it took me HOURS of research! Hours of staring at a paused screen, tons of reverse image lookups, asking locals… but I did it! I am actually proud of myself for all the work that went into this, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Madame Blanc Mysteries Filming Locations in Gozo and Malta: Complete Guide

If you have not watched all three seasons of The Madame Blanc Mysteries, this post may contain SPOILERS. And I will always keep this post up-to-date with the latest filming locations in upcoming seasons, so make sure you bookmark it!

What is The Madame Blanc Mysteries?

The series is written by Sally Lindsay and Sue Vincent, who also star in it. Jean White (Lindsay) is an antiques expert from the UK, who abruptly ends up in the fictional village of Sainte Victoire in the south of France after her husband, Rory, has a fatal car accident.

After learning about Rory’s shady dealings and extramarital affair, Jean is left with a pretty cottage and a murder mystery.

Throughout the series, Jean uses her antique knowledge to help the police solve many murders and mysteries around the quaint village.

Where is The Madame Blanc Mysteries Filmed?

Even though the show claims to be set in a sweet, little village in the south of France, all the filming is done in Malta, mainly on the island of Gozo, which is just north of the main island and easily accessible by fast boat or ferry.

How to Get to Gozo

The only way to get to Gozo is by boat. All the boats and ferries will dock at Mġarr, which is the main harbor in Gozo. There are two major ports around Malta, one on the northernmost point of the island, Ċirkewwa, and the other being Valetta, the capital of Malta.

The ferries from the north of the island are more frequent, but if you are staying around Valletta, then the fast boat will be more convenient and end up saving you time in the long run.

I recommend staying a couple of nights on Gozo because other than Madame Blanc filming locations, there is so much to see and do! It’s such a gorgeous part of the world.

Madame Blanc Filming Locations

Côte d’Azur Airport

We will start our Madame Blanc filming locations journey where most people start their Malta journey: at the airport! It’s not really a significant scene, but it’s our first meeting with some of the main characters… and you’ll be passing through the airport anyway, so you don’t have to try too hard to visit this location! *wink*

Sainte Victoire Main Square

What’s interesting about the first season is that it’s filmed in a completely different location than seasons 2 and 3. And it took me FOREVER to realize! Did you notice the difference?

The first series was filmed in Ta’ Sannat, a small village in southeast Gozo. I was wondering what the issue was with the town since they changed the location, but when I visited, the square was under construction—and it had been under construction for two years before that. So it made sense that the location needed to be changed.

Sannat also has another claim to fame, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie filmed their movie, By the Sea, at a nearby cove and ate at Ta’ Rosina, a cozy restaurant in town.

From season 2 onwards, Sainte Victoire is located in L-Gharb. Gharb and the surrounding area are filled with history, and it is the second oldest village parish in Gozo.

My fantastic Bolt tour guide, Kevin, actually lives here, so as he was taking me around the locations, he thought it was a French show they were filming, not a British one!

La Couronne (The Local Bar)

Everybody knows all the gossip happens at your local pub and La Couronne is no different. From the first couple of seasons with Eurovision star Celine and her husband, Niall, running the bar, to Jeremy and Judith taking the reins in season 3, giving us plenty of comedy and *face-palm* moments with their quirky business antics.

The bar is seen in every episode, whether a TV producer is walking through the doors, or Dom is going undercover as a numismatist.

What’s horribly unfortunate is the bar does not exist in real life… only the facade and empty shell of what looks like such a lively venue on the show.

The building used in season one is on the left side of the church in Sannat, and the one used from season two onwards is on the right side of the church.

Police Station

I remember watching the first episode and thinking, “Wow, such a pretty police station with all those statues outside”. Well, the statues are really there, not just fancy props!

In season one the police station is to the left side of the church, with the statues up against the church’s wall, and in season 2 onwards, the station is also located on the left side of the church.

Jean White’s House

The house is a staple in the Madame Blanc series. The pretty stone cottage has been the location of many memorable moments throughout the series, including the fight scene between her and Rory’s side woman, Barbara.

The house is a holiday rental that you can book for your stay on Gozo. Villa Birzit in Xaghra is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom villa with a pool. All the interior shots of Jean’s house are also filmed here. If you want to stay next to Jean’s villa, then book the gorgeous Sinjura Holiday Home.

This is a great location to stay while you visit Gozo because it’s so well connected AND close to Ramla Bay, my favorite beach on the island! However, you cannot make any future bookings at the moment, so hopefully the villa will be available again in the near future!

I haven’t stayed in Villa Birzit yet, but hopefully, I will the next time I visit Gozo!

Gloria’s Garage

Gloria, Sainte Victoire’s quirky mechanic, owns a garage in the village. This location was challenging to find because it’s not a famous or distinct building and is in the middle of nowhere.

Major kudos to Kevin, he knew exactly where it was!

The road is in northern Gozo, in Ghasri. I don’t know the number of the building, but if you use Google Maps to find Villaġġ Tal-Fanal, Gloria’s Garage is directly across the street!

The Chateau

Ok, so Villa Francia is the only location that you won’t be able to visit in real life because it’s the prime minister’s home. And you won’t even be able to get a peek from the street because it’s walled and gated.

Maybe one day, they will open to the public, or there will be a few days a year when the public can see the home, but for now, it’s closed doors. At least we get to enjoy the gorgeous house in the show.

This is also the only Madame Blanc filming on the island of Malta.

Brodeur & White (Jean’s Antique Shop)

The antique shop is first seen in the first Christmas special as the Lloyd Gelan Art Gallery where Andre’s wife worked. The art gallery closes down (for obvious reasons) and Jean scoops up the building for herself.

The shop is located in Victoria, the capital of Gozo, and you can easily walk to it from Independence Square (another filming location). The building is a vintage clothing shop, so you’ll be able to walk around the interior of this one.

The owner was really nice and let me take some photos inside. She was also shocked that I had found this location, so I guess I was the first to ask about it being a Madame Blanc filming location!

You can either type Vogue Xchange in your maps to find this location or the actual address, 25/26 GPF Aguis de Soldanis Street… it’s on the corner of this street and Triq Palma if that helps with your search!

The Marina

Mġarr Harbour is where Jeremy and Judith keep their boat moored.

In S3, E2, the diving team borrows their boat to survey the seabed and ends up finding treasure.

If you are visiting Gozo, you can’t miss this Madame Blanc filming location because it’s where all the ferries and fast boats arrive from Malta!

Xlendi

This cozy little bay features in season 2, episode 3 when Jeremy wakes up to find a dead woman on the deck of his boat after a crazy night of partying.

Ocean Views

Jean’s friend David visits Sainte Victoire with his newlywed husband, George in S2, E5.

Unfortunately, he tries to drive David mad with a curse and get rid of him at the same time. The climax of the show comes when George and David stop on the side of the road for a “picnic,” and George reveals he’s the one behind everything. He tries to force David off the edge of the cliff, but of course, he fails.

The giant rock seen in the background of the shot is Fungus Rock. It’s directly opposite the old site of the Azure Window, which collapsed in 2017. You can use the same parking lot/drop-off spot for Dwejra Bay… instead of looking to the right, look to the left and you can’t miss it!

Ozanne Parfumeur (Perfume Shop)

In S2, E7, a perfume shop is robbed, leading to a deadly mess. The shop that was used is currently an unoccupied building that is on the same street as Jean’s antique shop!

Just follow the street up and when it curves left, the perfume shop is on your left.

Musée du Sainte Victoire and Souvinir Shop

The Victoria Local Council town hall is used as the Musée du Sainte Victoire in Independence Square at the bottom of The Citadel in Victoria. The same square is also used in S1, E5 when Jean seeks advice from her friend who is a nun.

Other Notable Locations

• There are plenty of “driving through the countryside” shots, many of which feature The Citadel. The Citadel is huge and you cannot miss it! You can get an amazing view on any of the roads outside of Victoria.
• The bridge into Gharb is also used in several cut scenes and the opening credits.
• The Don Bosco Oratory Theatre in Victoria is used as the Sainte Victoire Theatre in S2, E3.
• The interior of Sannat Church is used in S1, E5.
